Advanced Massage Therapy Techniques
Having completed the second class on Advanced Massage Therapy for LMTs, I'm happy with the response because, to me, the techniques are second nature. However, for students coming out of massage schools that teach only deep tissue and Swedish massage, the advanced techniques are regarded with an attitude of awe.
As one student put it, "I knew there was something wrong about what I was being taught, I just didn't know what it was because it always seemed as though we were working against the body instead of with the body. This fills in the missing gap and now I feel so much better about what I can do. And it's so easy!"
The massage techniques she's talking about have helped her to feel and to experience the flow of energy of her patient. Once again, massage is not something you do to another person. Massage therapy is an art in itself. There are many techniques used by the therapist to release muscles. The technique taught in class allows the therapist to find and follow the patient's energetic release of the muscles which allows for a greater relaxation effect because the muscles move into a gentle release from within. This allows the energy pathways of the body open when they are ready to open. Much like peeling an onion. The result may feel like a deep relaxation effect with no pain.
As the massage therapist moves with the body, the body guides the therapist into the releases. This is not the same as working hard. After 10 years my body is not beaten down, nor am I in any pain as are many of the massage practitioners. One student said she now understood what it means to work smarter, not harder.
The students practicing the gentle but deep techniques and releases feel an immediate difference in how their bodies feel and learn the many ways to work the releases on their own hands and arms to maintain their own state of health and well-being.
The Art of Natural Healing workshops also focus on energy and how it moves through the body. Energy and massage cannot be separate. One is not more important than the other. Just as the body is not just physical, not just mental, not just emotional, not just spirit, there is a flow to how we move and live in the 3rd dimension called earth. When a healer feels an exchange of energy they are working from the lower dimensions from which there is always reciprocity or payback. Working in the higher dimensions assures there is no payback. What is meant by this is that when a person working in the healing arts feels the pain or discomfort, whether physical, emotional, or mental, of the person they are working with, they are working in the lower dimensions. A healer should not experience another person's discomfort in their own body.
The Art of Natural Healing courses and workshops integrate healing on all levels and in all the different dimensions. This helps healing professionals to become aware of our multi-dimensional reality. Healing doesn't just happen in the physical body. To heal one must be aware of their thoughts and emotions and how they manifest in the physical body. Only then will people understand that healing comes from within.
